Joint Rail Conference scheduled for March

The 2007 ASME/IEEE Joint Rail Conference, featuring more than 100 technical papers on new advances in rail engineering, will be held March 13–16, 2007, at the Marriott Hotel/Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, Colo.

ASME and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are joint sponsors of the conference, which will bring together engineers, equipment manufacturers, operators, maintenance personnel, and other professionals in the business of passenger and freight rail transportation. The Joint Rail Conference will be held in conjunction with ASME's Internal Combustion Engine Spring Technical Conference, which will run concurrently.

Featuring the theme "Railroad Advancements Through Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering," the multidisciplinary conference will cover a broad range of topics in the industry. They include vehicle performance, advanced fuel cell technology for locomotives, electronic vehicle systems, design and maintenance of substations, safety, equipment reliability, computer systems, and network management.

In addition, members of the ASME Internal Combustion Engines Division will contribute presentations on engine design and maintenance, alternative fuels for rail transportation, lubrication and friction, and technologies for emissions control.

The conference will begin with a technical tour of the Transportation Technology Center Inc., which is hosting the conference.
