Web seminar eyes renewable, clean energy

In January, ASME's Continuing Education Institute is offering an online seminar that examines the question of when renewable and clean energy is expected to make a major commercial impact on the energy industry.

The Web seminar, "Renewable and Clean Energy," will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Although renewable and clean energy has had a major impact on energy policy during the past 30 years, and has inspired a number of viable wind, solar, bio-diesel and ethanol projects, major commercial applications for it have not yet materialized.

"Renewable and Clean Energy," which will be led by Pat Sonti, vice president and advisor at ERG LLC in Florham Park, N.J., is intended provide participants with a clear understanding of specific commercial technologies and applications.

Sonti will focus on emerging technologies and applications, concentrating on the timeline from R&D to marketplace. The online course will also assess the market issues and constraints that could impede progress, and discuss how policy and other factors can help jump-start projects and applications.

Registration is $249 for ASME members and $299 for nonmembers. To register, or for more information, visit http://elearn.asme.org/webinars/RenewableEnergy.htm.
