Proposed ASME changes detailed;

ASME has scheduled four General Assembly meetings to explain in detail
the proposals from the Continuity and Change initiative that were presented
last month in Washington, D.C., to the Board of Governors and those
attending ASME's 2003 Congress.

children's hospital when servicing those in need
Last month, ASME extended a helping hand to a children's hospital here
that wanted to organize an elevator safety course for its technical
staff. In setting up the training course, ASME employed a method frequently
used by the hospital to treat its patients.

A new event held to introduce high school students and cadets attending
the U.S. Military Academy to the engineering profession attracted more
than 500 people when it was held in September.

Ten ASME staff members are among the first of 17 friends to make a commitment
to the ASME Foundation Planned Giving Initiative since the program was
introduced in June.

Drexel University recently added its top-ranked, online MBA program
to the list of programs offered to ASME members at reduced tuition rates.
ASME takes top publishing award
Mechanical Engineering magazine was awarded the 2003 Ozzie Gold Award
for Best Media Kit Design in the Association/Nonprofit category.
Solid waste processing facility

Nominations are open for ASME's Annual Facility Recognition Awards.
Three awards will be presented for each of two categories: combustion,
for large and small plants; and material recovery.

Through the ASME Foundation's most recent scholarship cycle, $84,500
in awards was distributed to 45 engineering students.
Diversity and Outreach Award
given to Canaveral Section officer
The Diversity and Outreach Award, established in 1996, is presented
by the ASME Board on Diversity and Outreach to an outstanding member
of ASME in recognition of that person's work to make ASME a welcome
place for all to participate, and to encourage inclusiveness and the
involvement of women and under-represented minorities in the Society.
