Solid waste processing facility award

Nominations are open for ASME's Annual Facility Recognition Awards. Three awards will be presented for each of two categories: combustion, for large and small plants; and material recovery.

The awards will be presented May 16 in Savannah, Ga.

The combustion category includes all thermal processing facilities that utilize non-fossil fuels. Such fuels include raw municipal solid waste, refuse-derived fuel, landfill gas, wood waste, tires, and other biomass fuels.

The material recovery category includes all non-thermal processing facilities that recover materials from the waste stream. Such processes encompass both recycling and composting.

Any Solid Waste Processing Division (SWPD) member in good standing may nominate a facility. Self-nominations by facility personnel are welcome.

The award is based on the facility's contributions to the field of solid waste processing. The nominations will be evaluated in a number of areas such as the facility's success in reaching facility goals; its environmental performance and safety; innovative contributions to solid waste processing; facility economics; technical contributions to solid waste processing and its role in integrated waste management.

Nominations will be judged by the SWPD's Facility Recognition Award Subcommittee of the Honors and Awards Committee, with approval of the recommended facilities by the Executive Committee.

Nominations are due Feb. 28. For more information about the Facility Recognition Award and application forms, contact Anthony Licata at (508) 854-3853, fax: (508)
