Code addresses fuel cell efficiency

Weeks after the U.S. Energy Secretary's prediction last month of an energy revolution driven by the use of fuel cells, ASME released a code on the performance of such systems in industry.

Performance Test Code 50 is the result of the efforts by an ASME technical committee that, six years ago, recognized the need to develop fuel cell standards. The purpose of the code is to define a commonly acceptable manner of measuring the energy input and output of fuel cell systems and for calculating efficiency. As the introduction points out, the efficiency of any fuel cell system will vary greatly with its power density.

The purchase price of PTC 50 is $75. To order, call (800) 843-2763 or (973) 882-1167.
