Nuclear engineering update offered at ICONE 10

Mark your calendars: The world's premier conference for the nuclear engineering community, the 10th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE 10), is fast approaching.

ICONE 10, which is sponsored by ASME International and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, will take place from April 14-18, 2002, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va., located just outside Washington.

A number of government officials and nuclear engineering experts have been invited to speak at several plenary sessions that are scheduled during the conference. Invited speakers include Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M.; Nils Diaz, commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Corbin McNeill, Jr., chairman of Excelon Corp.; Joe Colvin, president of the Nuclear Energy Institute; and Charlie Pryor, president and CEO of Westinghouse.

ICONE 10 will also feature panel sessions addressing topics that include advanced plant designs, siting and licensing issues for next-generation reactors, and information security for nuclear power plant applications. The event will also include a technical tour of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Emergency Response Facility.
