Classes in Phoenix to examine
failure prevention and more
Failure prevention, Section IX code requirements
and project management are among the subjects that will be explored
during six short courses that ASME is offering in February.
ASME's Continuing Education Institute will present the classes
from Feb. 4-8 at the Doubletree Hotel in Phoenix.
Attendees of "Failure, Failure Prevention and Repair of Pressure
Vessels, Piping, Boilers and Rotating Machinery with Life Extension
Considerations," from Feb. 4-6, will learn how to detect types
and causes of failures, properly interpret nondestructive test results,
and analyze financial considerations before repairing or replacing machinery.
Registration is $955 for ASME members, $1,055 for nonmembers.
"ASME Section IX, Welding and Brazing Qualifications,"
from Feb. 4-6, will cover the requirements of ASME Section IX by reviewing
basic welding metallurgy. By attending this seminar, you will gain experience
interpreting and understanding Section IX. You'll also have the
opportunity to review welding processes/variables and basic welding
metallurgy. Registration is $995 for members, $1,095 for nonmembers.
The short course "The Art of Project Management for Engineers"
is ideal for engineering team members who have little or no experience
in the project environment. The class, which will be given from Feb.
4-6, is also for experienced managers who need training in the technical
aspects of project management, such as planning, scheduling, budgeting,
and the control and use of software packages. Registration is $995 for
members, $1,095 for nonmembers.
"Operation, Maintenance and Repair of Plant Piping Systems,"
from Feb. 4-7, will introduce operations, engineering, maintenance and
inspection personnel to the technical bases for safe and efficient operating,
maintaining and troubleshooting plant piping systems. Practical case
studies will be used during the class. Registration is $1,195 for members,
$1,295 for nonmembers.
"ASME B31.1, Power Piping Design and Fabrication," which
will take place from Feb. 4-8, will bring you up-to-date on current
power piping code requirements, as well as provide insight into how
these requirements have evolved over the years. The course will also
cover which future changes in the code are expected. Registration is
$1,395 for members, $1,495 for nonmembers.
On Feb. 7 and 8, "Waterhammer and Fluid Structure Interaction
in Piping Systems" will examine the nature and source of pressure
transient phenomena in piping systems as they relate to the power industry.
Topics to be covered include computation techniques for analyzing single-
and dual-component transients in fluid machinery, valve operation, and
the condensation-induced waterhammer in nuclear piping. Registration
is $695 for members, $795 for nonmembers.
