Engineers will lead charge in the battle of technology vs. terrorism; speakers outline points of attack

In the wake of Sept. 11, ASME held a special plenary session during the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. "Technology vs. Terrorism: Designing Against the Threat of Assault" took place on Sunday Nov. 11 — two months to the day after the terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon.

During the two-hour session, "Technology vs. Terrorism — Designing Against the Threat of Assault," eight expert speakers talked about the kinds of technology that are needed to ensure aviation safety and to combat bioterrorism. More than 800 people attended. Read more.


Grants to fund education and leadership efforts
The ASME Foundation Board of Directors distributed $200,000 in grants to ASME units at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. Read more.

ETCE 2002 looks at developing technology and industry projects
The future of oil, gas and petrochemical technology will be the focus of ASME's Engineering Technology Conference on Energy (ETCE) 2002, to be held Feb. 4-5, 2002, in Houston. ETCE 2002, which is hosted by ASME International's Petroleum Division, will feature four topical symposia, covering the areas of pipeline, drilling, production and energy resources technology.
