Bioprocess seminars set for San Diego

ASME's Annual Bioprocess Technology Seminars and Exhibits program, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, is slated for Oct. 1–5 at the Hyatt Regency Islandia in San Diego's Mission Bay district.

The program follows ASME's successful Bioprocess Technology Seminars program held in Dublin, Ireland, which drew more than 200 industry professionals from around the world. The successful launch of the Bioprocess Dublin event marks an important milestone toward the ultimate goal of establishing ASME as the premier global provider of bioprocess-related codes and standards, training, and other educational experiences, noted Jennifer Delda, program manager for the bioprocess seminars.

The seminars to be held in San Diego will feature two new additions: "Achieving Bioprocess Quality by Design" and "Materials for Bioprocessing Applications — Metallurgy, Welding, Surface Characteristics and Corrosion Resistance."

The program will also offer 10 other classes presenting up-to-the-minute bioprocessing information, including "Aseptic Fill and Finish for Biopharmaceuticals," "Bioprocess Equipment Design and Facility Layout," "Bioreactor Process Technology," "Bioprocess Technology Implementation," "Bioreactor and Fermenter Design," "Bioprocess Fermentation and Cell Culture Design Scale-Up," "Bioprocess Purification Process Development," "Bio-Downstream Process Design and Economics," "Fundamentals of Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Cleaning Validation" and "Validation of Biopharmaceutical Facilities and Processes."

In addition, the program will include a keynote session, tabletop exhibits, a Genentech facility plant tour, and various networking events.
