ASME vice president named faculty member
of the year

Clark McCarrell, ASME vice president,
Leadership and Diversity, has been honored by the University of Phoenix
with its Faculty Member of the Year award. The University of Phoenix
specializes in adult education courses and offers classes both on its
Las Vegas campus and via the Internet.
McCarrell has been an instructor of a number of management courses at
the Las Vegas campus for the past six years. He was selected for the
recognition from more than 250 candidates in the Las Vegas area on the
basis of his teaching and mentoring skills, detailed review of students'
work products, and ability to bridge the gap between the theoretical
and the practical business applications.

Originally from Chicago, McCarrell attended the City Colleges of Chicago,
where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa
honor society. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical
engineering from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) with a major
concentration in engineering management.
McCarrell is employed as a senior engineer in power generation at Nevada
Power Co., an electric utility company in Las Vegas. Prior to joining
Nevada Power, he held various engineering positions at Southwest Gas
Corp. for almost 10 years.
In addition to this most recent honor, McCarrell has received many awards,
including the 1997 Outstanding Alumnus award from UNLV's College of
Engineering. He is the chairman of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering
advisory board and serves on the alumni board of directors at UNLV.
He has served as the Southern Nevada chapter president of the American
Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, and
as a director of the Nevada Society of Professional Engineers.
In his spare time, McCarrell enjoys performing with a variety of musicians
as an accomplished jazz drummer.
