Former Shuttle astronaut to deliver Congress keynote

Want to know what NASA Space Shuttle astronauts go through in flight? You can find out when Col. Mike Mullane, a former NASA Space Shuttle astronaut and author, gives the keynote address at November's ASME International Congress & Exposition in Orlando, Fla.

The Congress, which will be held from Nov. 5–11 at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, will comprise some 600 technical sessions covering about 50 technical fields.

Mullane's keynote presentation, "Countdown to Teamwork," is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7.

Col. Mike Mullane

Mullane was selected as a Mission Specialist Astronaut in 1978 in the first group of Space Shuttle astronauts. He completed three space missions and logged 356 hours in space aboard the shuttles Discovery and Atlantis before retiring from NASA and the Air Force in 1990.

Since his retirement, Mullane has written an award-winning children's book, "Liftoff! An Astronaut's Dream," and the popular space-fact book, "Do Your Ears Pop in Space?" He has also served as a host for "Inside Space," a nationally syndicated cable television program on the USA Network.

Mullane has been inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and is the recipient of many awards, including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, the Legion of Merit, and the NASA Space Flight Medal.
