Long Beach to host design and computing conferences

The 2005 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information In Engineering Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, Calif., from Sept. 24–28.

The event, which encompasses 10 co-located meetings, is designed to showcase cutting-edge research and accomplishments, and to enrich the educational experience in these fields.

The conferences will include plenary sessions, keynote lectures and several tutorials on different topics related to engineering design. The five-day event will also include a number of networking opportunities to meet and exchange information with peers.

The meetings that make up the event — widely considered the premier international meeting in the fields of design engineering and computers in engineering — include conferences covering Mechanical Vibration and Noise; Design Automation; Design Theory and Methodology; Design for Manufacturing; Computers and Information in Engineering; Reliability, Stress Analysis and Failure Prevention; Power Transmission and Gearing; Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics and Control; Mechatronic and Imbedded Systems and Applications; and Mechanisms and Robotics.

Industry participation is welcome, as the conference organizers hope that the event will lead to more effective and productive communication between the research and industrial communities. These conferences represent a unique opportunity for meeting colleagues and friends, exchanging ideas, and learning about each other's research work, organizers said.

Before Sept. 1, registration for the full conference is $545 for ASME members, $745 for nonmembers. One-day registration before Sept. 1 is $445 for members, $600 for nonmembers. Registration for students before that date is $125 for ASME student members, $150 for nonmember students.

After Sept. 1, registration for the meeting is as follows: $645 for ASME members, full conference; $845 for nonmembers, full conference; $545 for members, one day; $700 for nonmembers, one day; $175 for ASME student members; and $200 for nonmember students. ASME Life Members can register for $25 at any time.
