ASME partners with AIChE, NIA
ASME last month signed two separate memorandums
of understanding with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers
(AIChE), and with the National Insulation Association (NIA) thus
establishing formal relationships with the two other organizations.
Through one of the memorandums of understanding (MOUs), ASME and AIChE
established a formal partnership that includes joint membership privileges
and cross-promotion agreements. The second agreement, with NIA, leads
the way for the two organizations to begin a strategic partnership to
support mutual interests in the areas of professional development programs.
Under terms of a MOU signed by ASME and AIChE, joint membership is available
to members of both societies at a discounted rate. Specifically, ASME
members and student members interested in joining AIChE receive a 33
percent discount off AIChE's regular dues rate, and vice-versa.
"We see this joint membership agreement as an opportunity to reach
out to all engineers and more effectively serve the engineering community,"
said Virgil Carter, executive director of ASME.
The agreement also allows ASME and AIChE to distribute educational and
promotional material to one another's members, and enables joint members
to take advantage of discounted offers on meetings, publications, and
other products and services from both organizations. Already members
of each organization were able to purchase discounted subscription to
each other's flagship publications, ASME's Mechanical Engineering, and
AIChE's CEP.
AIChE, which was founded in 1908, has more than 40,000 members worldwide.
Its members work for corporations, universities and government agencies,
using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful
products for the benefit of society.
With the second MOU, ASME and the National Insulation Association agreed
to provide jointly sponsored workshops at technical, professional and
student conferences and workshops held by each association. The two
groups will offer continuing education and professional development
programs, and provide discounts and reduced rates on products and services.
"We are excited about our partnership with ASME and the opportunity
to provide ASME members information on the 'power of insulation,' "
said Gerry Scott, the president of NIA. "We are committed to contributing
to ASME's initiatives in increasing membership value through education
and quality programs in all facets of the mechanical and multidisciplinary
engineering community."
Founded in 1953, NIA is a trade association representing the mechanical
and specialty insulation industry. Its 400 member companies specialize
in commercial and industrial insulation contracting, refractory contracting,
environmental remediation, insulation distribution, fabrication and
lamination, and other specialty fields.
