The ASME Auxiliary was able to give several scholarships for the academic year that begins in the fall.

The Auxiliary gave two Parsons Scholarships (for doctoral students), four Rothermel Scholarships (for master's degree students), three Rice-Cullimore Scholarships (for non-U.S. graduate students) and 11 undergraduate scholarships. The total amount awarded through these scholarships was $40,000.

In addition, it also gave $22,500 in scholarships to undergraduates who participated in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics program through the ASME-ASME Auxiliary FIRST Clarke Scholarship Program. Nine FIRST scholarships, which are sponsored by both the ASME Foundation and the ASME Auxiliary, were awarded to FIRST participants, in the amount of $5,000 each.

There is still a considerable amount of money available for loans to mechanical engineering students. These loans are for up to $3,000 and can be obtained throughout the year. The 4-percent interest rate does not begin accruing until three months after graduation. Please contact Susan Hawthorne at saleneh@aol.com for more information regarding these loans.
