A dozen seminars, two plant tours, and a keynote address on regenerative medicine form the heart of ASME's 17th Annual Bioprocess Technology Seminars.

The seminars will take place Oct. 25-28 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. Visit www.asme.org/education/techsem/Bio/index.html for details and to register.

Robert M. Nerem, an ASME Fellow who is the director of the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience, will give the keynote address on Oct. 25 from 11:15 a.m. to noon. He will talk about "Regenerative Medicine: The Need for a National Initiative."

Nerem also serves as director of the Georgia Tech/Emory Center for the Engineering of Living Tissues and is a senior advisor on bioengineering at the National Institutes of Health's new National Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.

The seminars will last either three or four days. The three-day courses are "Intellectual Property and Intellectual Asset Management"; "Bioreactor and Fermentor Design"; "Polymer Materials"; "Bioprocess Purification Process Development"; "Cleaning Practices: Practical Implementation of CIP for Success"; and "Validation of Biopharmaceutical Facilities and Processes."

The four-day courses are "Bioreactor Process Technology"; "Bioprocess Equipment Design and Facility Layout"; "Bioprocess Fermentation and Cell Culture Design and Scale-Up"; "Facility Design"; "Bioprocess Equipment and Facility Delivery"; and "Bio-Downstream Process Design and Economics."

The charge for three-day courses will be $1,645 for ASME members; $1,795 for others. The fee for the four-day courses will be $2,045 for ASME members; $2,195 for others.

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers is a sponsoring organization and its members will be eligible for ASME member rates. All who register by Aug. 15 will get an early-bird rate of 10 percent off the full registration fee.

Attendees will be able to take tours of two plants: the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience at Georgia Tech in Atlanta; and the Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility at University of Georgia in Athens. Visit www.asme.org/education/techsem/bio/planttour.html for details.

Space for table-top exhibits is available. For more details, visit www.asme.org/education/techsem/bio/exhibit.html. For additional details on sponsorships visit www.asme.org/education/techsem/bio/sponsor.html.
