Archimedes Club to honor donors

Between now and November 2004, friends of ASME
will have the opportunity to impact the future of mechanical engineering
and the world as never before by becoming founding members of the ASME
Foundation's new Archimedes Club.
"Give me
where to stand and I will move the Earth," said the great Greek
mathematician Archimedes. Today this spirit continues with the individuals
who are preparing a planned gift to the ASME Foundation: the members
of the Archimedes Club.
The Planned Giving Program is a new initiative at the ASME Foundation
that lets donors put their resources to the fullest service of their
charitable goals while receiving financial benefits.
Past ASME President Allen Rhodes and his wife Carol are among the founding
members of the Archimedes Club, having recently contributed at the Silver
Level.
David Soukup, the ASME Foundation's executive director, and his wife
Pam Soukup also made history as the first ASME staff person and spouse
to bequeath a gift to the ASME Foundation in their wills.
Theirs are among the 20 planned gifts currently being established. This
represents more than $1 million that will be used to expand the Foundation's
scholarships, awards, educational initiatives and grants.
One Archimedes Club member will be designated to attend each meeting
of the ASME Foundation Board of Directors.
Membership in the Archimedes Club is awarded for the donor's lifetime.
Founding members will be distinguished as those who make a planned gift
between now and November 2004.
