Courses online and in two languages

Next month, ASME will begin offering some of its short courses online and in two languages through the ASME Virtual Campus.

The continuing education program will debut with four ASME courses — Basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing; ASME Section VIII, Division I, Design and Fabrication of Pressure Vessels; Repairs and Alterations of Pressure Vessels, and the Bolted Joint — that will be available in English.

Those will be followed in October by five courses available in Spanish. The course instructors will promote the courses among the Latin American markets where the target audience for them resides. The courses are priced lower than online courses in English to accommodate fluctuations in the local currencies.

Continuing ed students taking a short course online will learn from experts in the field; have an opportunity to collaborate with their peers through message boards, e-mail or file sharing; have access to a person for technical assistance; and be able to take courses at their convenience on a campus that's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Each course takes from four to six weeks to complete.

The fee per course in English will be $595 for ASME members and $695 for nonmembers. Short courses offered in Spanish will be $395 for members and $495 for nonmembers.
