Technical papers published faster because journals appear more often

ASME will be able to publish technical papers faster, now that two of the Society's Transaction Journals will be published six times a year instead of four.

The Journal of Applied Mechanics will appear online in January, March, May, July, September and November.

The Journal of Heat Transfer will appear online in February, April, June, August, October and December.

The change in publishing frequency was approved during ASME's Summer Annual Meeting in June to ensure a rapid turnaround of submitted manuscripts and peer-reviewed papers, which will reduce the journals' backlog.

The increased publishing schedule also gives the journals a better competitive advantage with peer journals that are often published 12 to 24 times a year.

Papers for the Journal of Applied Mechanics should be submitted to L.T. Wheeler, the journal's editor, a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston. Papers can be e-mailed to him at Lwheeler@uh.edu.

Papers for the Journal of Heat Transfer should be submitted to Vijay Dhir, the journal's editor. He is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. He can be e-mailed at vdhir@seas.ucla.edu.
