Maloney was introduced to ASME activities in the areas of standardization and public safety; risk assessment; the engineering workforce and women in engineering; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education; and research and development funding. She thanked ASME for its work in these important areas, adding, "We need to invest in engineers. Engineering feats move us forward as a country."

As a co-founder of the House 9/11 Commission Caucus, Maloney commended ASME-ITI for its work in the risk analysis methodology known as RAMCAP (Risk Analysis and Management for Critical Asset Protection) and for its leadership in federal government fellowship programs that assist decision makers with issues related to engineering and technology.

Maloney, who has represented New York's 14th Congressional District since 1993, currently serves as chair of the House Financial Service Committee's Financial Institutions Subcommittee, vice chair of the Joint Economic Committee, and as a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Before departing, the congresswoman expressed her appreciation for having the opportunity to learn of ASME's involvement in so many areas that are of interest to her and said that she looked forward to continuing to build on her relationship with ASME.
