Deadline nearing for student loan applications

ASME student members who are interested in applying for an ASME student loan for the 2006 summer or fall semesters should be finishing up their application forms as quickly as possible. Applications must arrive at ASME Headquarters in New York by April 15.

Although the application form is available online, at www.asme.org/Education/FinancialAid/Loans/
Student_Loan_Funds.cfm
, applications will not be accepted electronically. Completed application forms must be mailed to ASME Headquarters by April 15. Applicants will be notified of results between May 15 and May 30.

The ASME Student Loan Fund has awarded low-interest student loans to more than 1,000 ASME student members. The fund, which was started by a grant from the ASME Board of Governors, is sustained as student members repay their loans after they graduate.

The current fixed-rate ASME student loan rate is a low 4.3 percent — 1 percent lower than the Federal Stafford Loan variable rate.

Qualified full-time undergraduate students in the United States, Canada, and Mexico may borrow up to $3,000 per academic year to a maximum of $9,000. Full-time graduate students may request an additional $3,000.
