Web tool turns planning for
meetings into big picture for organizers
A new ASME-created Web tool gives those organizers access to the big
picture, leaving less room for important pieces of the planning process
to fall through any cracks.

Section sees meeting attendance swell and interest by members increase
Last November, ASME's Southeastern Michigan Section was in dire straits.
Active membership in the Society's third largest section had dwindled
to about eight members. Five months and a lot of communication and strategy
development later, Tom Libertiny, the current section chair, said active
members now number around 50.

A Town Hall Meeting was sponsored by the ASME Tallahassee Section, and
by the student sections at Florida State and Florida Agricultural and
Mechanical University (FAMU) as part of Engineers Week 2002.
Bobsled Start Simulator helps
U.S. Olympic Team bring home the gold
With the assistance of a Bobsled Start Simulator designed by a team
that included five ASME members, US Olympians ended a 46-year medal
drought in bobsled competition.
Clarke Scholarships given to
six institutions for 2002-03
ASME will distribute $36,000 in scholarship money to six universities
that won a Clarke Scholarship because of their mechanical engineering
or mechanical engineering technology department's support of ASME activities.

The Council on Engineering's Inter-Council Committee on Federal Research
and Development (ICCFRD) convened Feb. 13-14 in Washington to gain perspective
on President Bush's fiscal year 2003 budget request.
Scholarship fund grows as members
continue to sign up new recruits
The membership recruitment campaign that ASME started in August has
brought in a total of $12,339 as of Feb. 28. For the month of February
alone, $1,141 was raised.
