The Lucy & Charles W.E. Clarke Scholarship
is a combined scholarship between the ASME Auxiliary and the ASME Foundation.
It awarded $36,000 for the academic year 2002-03 to the following six
institutions: Northeastern University, Oregon Institute of Technology,
Virginia Tech, Penn State, City College of New York and the University
of South Carolina.
Each university's mechanical engineering department received $6,000
to award to incoming high school students. Although the mechanical engineering
departments can award the money in whatever amounts they choose, it is
recommended that scholarships be in the amount of $2,000 each.
The Los Angeles Section of the ASME Auxiliary was able to raise $2,625
to
contribute toward the educational funds of the Auxiliary.
The San Francisco Section raised $755 to contribute to the same fund.
The fund raising done in the sections is an integral part of the methods
that the Auxiliary uses to raise money for scholarships and loans. Donations
from members are another method.
