Recruiting members has its rewards
As part of the incentive program in ASME's current
membership drive, the name of every member who recruits a new dues-paid member
is entered in the monthly drawings for a Palm Pilot VII and an end-of-drive
drawing for a Gateway computer.
Donald A. Alexander,
the owner of a consulting business, Alexander Professional SVC in Jonesboro,
Ark., is the latest winner of a Palm Pilot VII. He is a member of the Arkansas
Section in Region X.

ASME NEWS: What are you planning to do with the Palm Pilot VII?
Alexander: "I am going to use it to keep track of my activities, I
have always used some kind of agenda or calendar in the past."
ASME NEWS: Why did you decide to become an ASME member?
Alexander: "I had served on the Portable Automotive Lifting Device
(PALD) committee through Codes and Standards dating back to 1987, I became
acquainted with ASME and decided to join."
Alexander became a member in 1994.
ASME NEWS: Why do you continue to be a member?
Alexander: I am a mechanical engineer and I am the chair for the PALD
committee. I enjoy working with Codes and Standards to maintain the safety
factor."
ASME NEWS: Do you recommend ASME as a professional society?
Alexander: "Yes, because I enjoy contributing to the quality of life
through my membership. I also believe that mechanical engineering students
should become members, so they too can see how they can make contributions
to the profession and how that contribution affects society."
