Spotlight on: The Innovation Showcase

capitolStudent teams are invited to apply for a spot at the 2010 ASME Innovation Showcase (IShow), to be held June 5, during the ASME Annual Meeting at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh. March 5 is the deadline to apply and participate in the competition, which provides teams of undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to present their innovative product ideas to a panel of experts for an opportunity to win seed money to bring their inventions to market.

ASME IShow was founded in collaboration with the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) and the Idea to Product (I2P) competition at the University of Texas, Austin.

To enter, teams submit a two page summary outlining the nature of their invention or technological breakthrough and its impact and market potential. The summary should address the following questions:

• What is your product?
• What market need does your product meet?
• What is the size of your market?
• What is the underlying technology or technologies in your product and how is it unique and innovative?
• Who will buy or use this product and why?
• What intellectual property protection will be used?

IShow submissions will then be reviewed and ranked, with the top 10 teams invited to participate in the competition, where they will compete for more than $20,000 in seed money. Judges for the event will include successful innovators, industry experts, venture capitalists, and intellectual property specialists.
